Millbrook Twins went missing 32 years ago from a gas station at Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, and more than three decades later, it remains unsolved.
Dannette and Jeannette Millbrook were only 15 years old when they were kidnapped not far from their Georgia home.
It wasn't a late night or an early morning case. 4:30 p.m, the last time the twins were seen, by the gas station as they stopped to buy some soda and chips.
The family still hasn't lost hope. There's a belief that their daughters are somewhere out there. Only last week, the case saw an increase of $39,000 in reward.
Have The Millbrook Twins Been Found? Update
Millbrook Twins case had an update last week, but it was only for the reward money. The twins disappeared on March 18, 1990, and it remains a cold case.
After a bit of searching in 1990, the case was closed in 1991, but in 2013 the case was reopened. And in 2017, the Fall Line Podcast premiered a show dedicated to the Millbrook Twins.
Since then, the case gained some momentum, and now AudioChuck, the makers of Crime Junkie, is telling the story again and have increased the reward.
AudioChuck has also helped in putting up the billboard and has helped to reiterate the story to those who had not known about the kidnapping of Millbrook Twins, as said by Laurah Norton, The Fall Line Podcast Host.
Shanta Sturgis, sister of the twins, has hoped that the reward money can help bring her sisters back home. Their mother is 69 years old and was 35 years old when she lost her twin daughters.
Sturgis had requested to reopen the case in 2004, but it was later only in 2013, after the election of Richmond County Sheriff Roundtree, that he agreed to investigate the cold case and try to bring it to its closure.
Dannette And Jeannette Millbrook- What Happened To The Millbrook Twins?
On the day of the kidnapping, the Twins had told their mother that a white van had followed them, but nobody heeded what they said.
The twins left their house at 3 p.m to visit their godfather's house and made two more stops before ending up at the gas station, where they were last seen.
Shanta Sturgis said that the person who drove the white van used to be called 'Raper man Charles'.
In the Shaws Creek Area of Aiken County, human remains were discovered, which initially was thought to be of the Millbrook twins. But the private examination of the remains ruled out any possibility of it being linked to the twins.
Dannette And Jeannette Millbrook, as described by their mother, were no troublemakers and were good kids. They had no history of running away from home, and the two girls were good at school.
In 1991 the case was closed because an investigator told the family that as the girls turned 17, they could not be compelled to return home. It was harsh for the family as it was only a year after the girls disappeared.
In 1993 the original case file disappeared as it was reported that the girls had been found. After that, it became tough for the family to encounter any justice.
Who Killed The Millbrook Twins?
The question still looms as the killer of The Millbrook Twins has not been identified, and it's yet to be confirmed whether the twins are dead, but there was suspicion on Joseph Patrick Washington.
Joseph Patrick Washington was in the neighborhood where the girls were living. He was previously charged with seventeen consecutive life sentences in 1995 for physically and sexually assaulting numerous women.
In 2019 almost 30 years later, Oxygen's The Disappearance of the Millbrook Twins aired, and it examined the unexplainable behavior of their father, John Willbrook, as he didn't agree to give his DNA sample in 2013 when the case was reopened. Similarly, he even told the eldest daughter not to give her DNA sample.
The Millbrook family has kept a glimmer of hope that their daughters will come back home after 32 years. Shanta runs a Facebook page in memory of her sisters. She was 12 when her older sisters got kidnapped. Shanta says she might faint the day she sees her sister but hopes that day will come soon.
